About the role

Within the framework of the mission, vision, values, philosophy and policies of Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the Career Medical Officer is responsible for the provision and documentation of safe, effective and appropriate patient centred medical care in a team based environment. This position requires the participation on a 7 day a week/24hr roster, with an ability to work in charge of the department on night shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that all patients discharged from the department who require non-ED follow-up care receive a written discharge letter and advice about their condition, including the use of patient hand outs where available 
• Ensure that patients are discharged to a safe environment 
• Ensure that appropriate follow up arrangements are in place for patients being discharged home
• Demonstrated an understanding of risk management processes and systems 
• Protects the rights of patients whilst respecting their values, customs and spiritualbeliefs

What you bring 

• Demonstrated high level of organisational, communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with patients and their families, multidisciplinary health care team and broader internal and external stakeholders 
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and ability to work independently in a complex environment utilising skills, judgement and expertise to provide a high standard of patient care and broader internal and external stakeholders 
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and staff and non-clinical staff working in the Emergency Medicine/Critical Carearea
• A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
