Critical Care Senior Resident Medical Officer
2023 Clinical Year
Calvary Public Hospital Bruce, ACT
Calvary Public Hospital Bruce, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is a 233-bed public hospital providing emergency, acute and sub-acute services. Our ED comprises 28 acute beds, a 10 bed Short Stay Unit and a large dedicated Fast Track area. Inpatient services include ICU, general medicine, neurology/stroke, cardiology, O&G, general surgery, urology and mental health. Other specialty services are accessed via The Canberra Hospital (15mins drive), with whom we have close links for phone advice, transfers and outpatient clinic follow-up.
We are seeking enthusiastic and caring doctors at PGY3 or greater to join our Critical Care SRMO program. As a member of this group you will be able to enjoy a variety of experiences across Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, as well as Anaesthetics or Cardiology.
The successful candidates will receive a solid grounding in Critical Care and Acute Medicine through multiple rotations, on-the-floor and protected teaching, a critical care procedures course, and regular structured feedback during and at the end of each term. A number of previous CCSRMOs have completed the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate or Diploma (EMC/EMD) whilst at Calvary Bruce, with multiple consultants able to provide supervision for this.
We understand that some doctors will be seeking part-time work at this stage of their career, and we are very happy to accommodate this, with 8-10hr shifts as per request, based in the ED for the year.
We pride ourselves in being available and supportive to our SRMOs in growing as clinicians, in achieving a good work-life balance, and in negotiating the many career options available for the future.
Overall, the experience and knowledge gained from an SRMO year at Calvary will provide an excellent foundation for those considering further training in Emergency Medicine, General Practice/ACRRM, Intensive Care, or Anaesthetics.
