About the role

In this newly created position, as the Director Health Research and Translation you will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN) Research Plan. You will facilitate strong and vital collaborations with key partners inside Hunter New England Local Health District, Hunter Medical Research Institute, University of Newcastle, Regional Health Partners. As the Director Health Research and Translation you will provide outstanding leadership in the interface between research policy and practice; and implementation for CMN to external organisations at state, national and international level.

You will foster excellence in research and related professional activities, policy and planning development with CMN, as well as foster research education and mentoring throughout Calvary Health Care. You will oversee the inclusion of researchers in research policy and planning, as well as establish mechanisms to evaluate and report on research translation. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of Research Plan, ensuring input from all clinical disciplines and senior management.
  • Build capacity regarding implementation science.
  • Facilitate advances in medical, interdisciplinary, nursing, allied health, public health, health services research and its translation into widespread practice
  • Improve the efficiency of and participation in clinical research and its translation and scaling across the District.
  • Manage the operations and performance of the Research Governance Office.

What you bring 

  • Qualified Staff Specialists, with post-doctoral research related qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in translating research into practice in the public health system.
  • Outstanding professional leadership qualities and capacity for senior executive management responsibilities
  • Evidence of outstanding scholarly activity of an international standard in research and a demonstrated ongoing commitment to one or more programs of research.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and motivational skills which demonstrate a capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
