About the role

This role is a National role that oversees coding and medical records functions across Calvary’s nine private hospitals. The role is responsible for the implementation of coding and clinical documentation improvement initiatives as well as putting in place systems to support, sustain and grow the clinical coding workforce.
This role also plays a pivotal part in: data quality improvement of statutory reporting functions; standardisation of medical record forms; and strategy development of digitized medical records.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and advice on digitalization of medical records and electronic medical record processes
  • Review and make recommendations to local leaders around use of systems and workflow
  • Facilitate hospitals and the health fund team in projects and processes that support revenue assurance
  • Implement a clinical documentation program across the group and develop a support network for continuous learning and development of the Clinical Documentation Specialists
  • Review medical records processes and implement an efficient future state compliant with health information standards (whether paper or digitally based)
  • Lead the implementation of the medical records forms review
  • Review, analyse and implement improvements to data submitted for statutory reporting


What you bring 

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a Senior HIM role
  • Bachelor of Health Information Management (HIM) or equivalent qualifications acceptable for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare reports, strategy papers and develop policies and procedures
  • Detailed understanding of the latest version of the Australian Coding Standards
  • Highly developed coding experience across a wide-range of casemix as well as experience with iPM, 3M, Vitro
  • Previous experience managing an end-to-end Health Information Service in a private hospital setting
  • Detailed operational knowledge of patient information reporting systems
  • Excellent ability to build relationships and engage stakeholders in change initiatives
  • Solid skills in MS Office Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Flexibility to travel in the National role and a desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
