About Calvary Health Care Bethlehem – Parkdale, Victoria

Calvary Health Care Bethlehem (CHCB) is a 32 bed health care facility providing a range of inpatient, community and ambulatory services for palliative care and progressive neurological conditions.  CHCB is also an NDIS service provider. We are currently located at our temporary site in Parkdale, whilst our Caulfield site is being re-developed into a Health Care Precinct, due to open in Jan 2023.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is a mandatory requirement for healthcare workers in Victoria, and as such, all employees at Calvary Health Care must provide evidence of Vaccination.

All employees must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment when required, which at a minimum is a surgical mask.  Additional PPE requirements are role-dependant.


About the role

The Occupational Therapy Department at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem is seeking an outstanding Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to join our team.  

Our current service gaps are in our NDIS Provider Service and our oupatient Statewide Progressive Neurological Diseases Service. For suitably experienced candidates, the NDIS Provider Service has full time permanent hours available. There would be opportunities available to move into other service streams which align to the candidate's skills and the broader needs of the department. 

We are a tertiary provider of specialist care in progressive neurology across the state of Victoria. Our team works within a neuropalliative rehabilitation framework and aims to provide best practice assessment and holistic care for patients with progressive neurological diseases (e.g. Motor Neurone Disease and Huntington’s disease) and their families, across the disease trajectory.

All team members receive regular 1:1 and group supervision as well as opportunities to participate in departmental quality improvement activities, research, conference attendance and presentations, and education provision.

Our service streams include:

  • Inpatient service: 32 bed ward with a mix of progressive neurology and palliative care beds
  • Outpatient - Statewide Progressive Neurological Disease Service: Specialist interdisciplinary assessment and management service for people with a diagnosed progressive neurological disease such as Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsonian Syndromes
  • Community Palliative Care Service:  Our service provides practical assistance, care coordination,  symptom management, and psychosocial support, delivered in the local community catchment area
  • NDIS provider Service: providing a range of allied health therapies and Specialist Behaviour Support, delivered across metropolitan Melbourne to adult participants under 65 years old with progressive neurological conditions
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)- CHSP clients are over 65 years old and require Speech Pathology services to support functional independence, safety and participation, delivered in our  local community catchment area. CHSP clients may have goals to support them with ageing, chronic health conditions, or other progressive neurological conditions.

What you bring 

  • Qualified AHPRA registered Occupational Therapist
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current Driver Licence
  • Expertise and experience working in the community and with palliative and/or progressive neurological client groups
  • Experience and familiarity with NDIS language, processes and report writing requirements 
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in prescription of assistive technology (including sound postural assessment skills) and home modifications
  • Interest in developing skills in Electric Assistive Technology (Computer access methods, environmental control, mounting etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
