Salary Range: $114,201-$118,901 (Plus Super)

 About the role

The Acute Pain Service (APS) Clinical Manager provides clinical coordination of the Hospitals Acute and Chronic pain Models of Care. The APS Clinical Manager will demonstrate an advanced level of clinical knowledge in the acute care setting and will provide professional leadership in the planning, coordination and operational management of the service.

In collaboration with other senior clinical team members, the APS Clinical Manager will assist in the development, review and implementation of policies relevant to the service.

The position will utilise technical, clinical, research and education knowledge to assist decision making processes and change management initiatives.

This position will report clinically to the Director of Anaesthesia however, once the Director of Pain Service is appointed, the clinical line management may change with consultation.

For all nursing professional development and standards this position reports to the ADON Perioperative Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops clinical education/training programs in alignment with the organisation’s clinical learning strategy principles, with key performance measures to ensure business and clinical outcome benefit.
  • Keeps abreast of latest evidence, standards and best practice in pain management and medication safety to meet service needs.
  • Identifies practice development, audit and research opportunities in pain management and medication safety, focusing on skill acquisition, leadership, service development and clinical standards improvement
  • Maintain and evaluate quality of clinical service and equipment.
  • Oversees the planning of current and acquisition of new APS equipment that uses resources efficiently and effectively together with the Anaesthetic Department and Medication Safety Pharmacist.  

What you bring 

  • Holds current unconditional registration as a Registered Nurse (division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work professionally and harmoniously with a multidisciplinary team across the hospital to deliver high standards of patient care with regard to pain management and medication safety.
  • Holds, or working towards a Post Graduate qualification in pain management is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical education and training, clinical supervision, mentoring and preceptorship in a complex acute health care environment with the ability to develop and deliver education programs relevant to medication safety, pain management and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and participation in clinical governance programs associated with pain management and medication safety
  • Lead quality improvement activities and research related to pain management and participate in medication safety activities consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and other related legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, presentation, data, spread sheet applications and clinical information systems.
