About Calvary Health Care Bethlehem – Parkdale, Victoria

Calvary Health Care Bethlehem (CHCB) is a 32 bed health care facility providing a range of inpatient, community and ambulatory services for palliative care and progressive neurological conditions.  CHCB is also an NDIS service provider. We are currently located at our temporary site in Parkdale, whilst our Caulfield site is being re-developed into a Health Care Precinct, due to open in Jan 2023.

All Calvary Hospital services adhere to a Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy, evidence of vaccination and immunity for specific infectious diseases will be required. Vaccination against COVID-19 is a mandatory requirement for healthcare workers in Victoria, and as such, all employees at Calvary Health Care must provide evidence of Vaccination.

All employees must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment when required, which at a minimum is a surgical mask.  Additional PPE requirements are role-dependant.

 Our service streams include:

  • Inpatient service: 32 bed ward with a mix of progressive neurology and palliative care beds
  • Outpatient - Statewide Progressive Neurological Disease Service: Specialist interdisciplinary assessment and management service for people with a diagnosed progressive neurological disease such as Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinsonian Syndromes
  • Community Palliative Care Service:  Our service provides practical assistance, care coordination,  symptom management, and psychosocial support, delivered in the local community catchment area
  • NDIS provider Service: providing a range of allied health therapies and Specialist Behaviour Support, delivered across metropolitan Melbourne to adult participants under 65 years old with progressive neurological conditions
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)- CHSP clients are over 65 years old and require Speech Pathology services to support functional independence, safety and participation, delivered in our  local community catchment area. CHSP clients may have goals to support them with ageing, chronic health conditions, or other progressive neurological conditions.

About the role

If you are a Physiotherapist with a strong grounding in inpatient palliative and/or neurological service provision and well established core assessment and intervention skills, this role could be the next level of challenge you need to take the next step your career.

The Physiotherapy Department at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem is seeking an outstanding applicant to join our very experienced Physiotherapy and inpatient team.  

There may be opportunities available to move into other service streams which align to the candidate's skills and the broader needs of the department through rotations and leave cover as required and negotiated.

Our inpatient Physiotherapy service includes management of adults with progressive neurological and palliative conditions who are admitted for symptom management, assessment or end of life care. 

Using a neuropalliative approach to care, balancing quality of life and dignity of risk, the Physiotherapist supports patients with their goals and discharge planning in close collaboration with the inpatient multidisciplinary team and external stakeholders. The Physiotherapist works regularly with the whole care team including community palliative providers, Motor Neurone Disease Victoria, community allied health providers, NDIS support workers etc.

Bethlehem has a strong culture promoting learning and development. All team members receive regular supervision and opportunities to participate in education, quality improvement and research activities. Clinical placements are also supported by the department.

  • Qualified AHPRA registered Physiotherapist
  • Interest in developing skills in progressive neurology and palliative Physiotherapy
  • Committed to working with the team to problem solve and manage complex caseload
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills 
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in prescription of assistive technology (including wheelchairs)
  • Committed to ongoing learning and development
  • Team-player and able to support other Physiotherapy streams when required, i.e. leave cover
