About the role

The role of the Regional Workplace Health & Safety Manager is to ensure the effective implementation of the National Work Health and Safety program that supports the operational requirements of Calvary in New South Wales.

This role will assist in the management of Calvary’s Occupational Health and Safety and Work Cover Management programs; this role will be responsible for ensuring safety compliance including facilitation and oversight of the internal and external safety audit programs. Assisting in the development and implementation of safety initiatives and projects which contribute to improved safety and wellness; ensure we meet legal and compliance obligations in Safety, Health and Wellbeing; assisting in the management of WorkCover; and influencing the organisation to set best practice standards.

Some of the key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate and coordinate Work Health & Safety activities with an aim to ensuring reduction in harm related incidents and improved productivity and safety of staff; and involvement in client home assessments.
  • Participate and assist in planning, policy development, education and training which promotes a safe environment and work practices reflecting best practice by way of providing professional support to the Managers and supervisors in regards to Work Health Safety in addition to providing guidance, direction and advice to managers and employees.
  • Manage the WHS Action Plan with an aim to ensure corrective actions relevant to WHS are completed by staff in a timely manner.  
  • Surveillance of government directives with respect to OHS regulations and standards.  This includes participation, implementation and ongoing review of all work safety plans at all sites and facilities inclusive of pandemic and business continuity plans, fire evacuation plans, maintenance, access and other standards as applicable. 
  • Practice in accordance with Calvary and relevant government health policies and procedures, the position description, Calvary Code of Conduct and industrial agreements.  Specifically, Work Health and Safety Act (NSW) 2011; Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act (NSW) 1998 Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (QLD) or updated legislation as applicable.
 
About you

Essential

  • Demonstrated relevant experience in a WHS and RTW role and/or tertiary qualifications relevant to WHS or related discipline
  • A sound knowledge of WHS legislation and related Codes of Practice.
  • Experience delivering WHS training and managing WHS activities and projects.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of WHS Management Systems.
  • Strong experience in undertaking risk assessments and developing safe work procedures and auditing.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong people management, coaching and influencing skills.
  • Possess a current drivers licence.
