Senior Clinical Coder/Medical Record Supervisor

About the role

The Medical Records/Clinical Coding Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and efficient operation of the Medical Records Department and Coding Teams. The Medical Records Department is a service to hospital staff, patients and visiting medical officers. The Medical Records/Clinical Coder Supervisor must ensure service provision is timely and of a high quality.

 What you bring

        • Successful completion of the Health Information Management Association of      Australia (HIMAA) Clinical Coding course (certificate IV or equivalent) and or have successfully completed or currently studying the Advanced ICD-10-AM, ACHI ACS Clinical Coding (HIMAA) or equivalent
        • Have excellent knowledge of medical terminology
        • Proven ability to accurately classify diseases and procedures using ICD-10-AM (10th Edition) in a timely and accurate manner
        • Proven knowledge of casemix principles and DRGs
        • Ability to liaise with professional staff members at all levels
        • Assignment of ICD-10-AM diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with the Australian Coding Standards
        • Ensure accurate DRG allocation to all episodes of care
        • Industry experience
        • Effective communication and organisational skills
        • Ability to supervise staff
        • Experience with computerised patient management systems and data entry

 Duties/Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Medical Records Clerical Staff to ensure Medical Records are sequenced and collected from wards and are made available for patient care in a timely manner
  • Supervision of Clinical Coding Staff
  • Manage medical record scanning and quality control activities, paper record retrieval, tracking and storage, information release for ongoing patient care
  • Ensure end of month coding deadlines are completed in a timely manner and within KPI’s set for the Department
  • Mentoring of Clinical Coders
  • Promote and coordinate coding updates
  • Work with Accounts Receivable staff for Health Fund Audits and or Health fund queries including DRG mismatches
