About the role

As Unaccredited Medical Registrar at the Calvary Mater Newcastle, The successful applicant will work in an acute clinical setting, supporting the General Medical staff specialists and will rotate in a clinical year of four 13 week terms. You will be working after hours shifts  & must be prepared to work  an equal share of days, evenings, Nights and weekends,  supporting JMO’s and acting as the specialist’s proxy to admit(through the Emergency Department) and manage patients on the wards in acute & sub-acute setting. You will have the opportunity to work in other sub specialties such as Medical Oncology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Haematology, Palliative Care, and cover Basic Physician Trainee Annual Leave in weekly blocks, providing continuity of care.

The Calvary Mater Newcastle has dedicated teaching and departmental specific education programs comprising of but not limited to:

• Weekly Grand Rounds
• Weekly Registrar Training facilitated by General Medicine
• Sub Specialty training each week in Medical Oncology
• The opportunity to present cases of interest at Grand Rounds
• Weekly Cardiology teaching
• Radiation Oncology Teaching
• Access to HNE Weekly BPT education

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate competency in the care of patients in a general internal medicine service, particularly those with complex care needs
• Participate in a co-operative and productive role in the provision of patient care as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team, including attendance at regular MDT meetings.
• Accompany consultants and teams on daily rounds, attend meetings and discussions required for the provision of patient care.
• Liaise closely with senior colleagues in matters of patient diagnosis, progress, results and management. 
  
  

What you bring 

• MBBS or equivalent, currently hold full registration or eligible for full registration with the Medical Board of Australia (the position is not suitable for those with Limited registration).
• Suitable for applicants with approval for Provisional registration under the Competent Authority Pathway who require 12 months supervised practice.
• Have at least 3 years post graduate experience including experience in general medicine or hospital medicine within the Australian Healthcare system, or equivalent health system.
• A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission-based organisation
  
  

The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
