THE ROLE:

The IT Support Officer is the key IT professional for the Department of Radiation Oncology, serving both the Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN) and North West Cancer Centre (NWCC - Tamworth) locations.

They are responsible or ensuring that all IT systems and services within the department function smoothly and reliably. This includes:

  •  Providing expert technical support to staff: Troubleshooting computer issues, resolving software problems, and assisting with the use of various applications.
  • Maintaining and improving the department's IT infrastructure: This includes managing networks, servers, and other critical IT systems.
  • Prioritizing and resolving IT issues promptly: Minimizing disruption to patient care and departmental workflow.

The officer actively contributes to the department's success by:

  • Participating in departmental projects: Providing valuable IT input and ensuring successful implementation of new technologies.
  • Collaborating effectively with other departments: Fostering strong working relationships and ensuring smooth communication across the organization.

DUTIES:

  • Actively participate in Departmental project groups and ensuring effective communication with the Rad Onc IT team and inter-departmental disciplines;
  • Proficiency in use of PCs, servers, Operating Systems (both PC and Server Based) and associated software;
  • Participate in On-Call roster;
  • Participate in an roster to implement/install system software updates and critical security patches on servers and desktop computers after hours;
  • Able to provide hardware and software support for hospital based systems including Microsoft based systems and installations;
  • Able to provide advanced PC support, advice and assistance to Radiation Oncology staff;
  • Able to provide frontline support for Varian, and other departmental applications. Able to start and stop services on servers and PCs as required;
  • Knowledge of department specific and hospital based information systems e.g. Aria, iPM, CAP, SDPR in relation to business operations;
  • Examine and report on systems software and communications systems;
  • Investigate and report on the application of new information technology and information technology techniques;
  • Able to provide support for Citrix and VMware infrastructure.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Diploma in Information Technology (or equivalent) in conjunction with relevant industry certification;
  • Demonstrate experience with use, installation and support of Microsoft infrastructure (Server and Desktop) including SQL Server, Share Point with Microsoft SQL reporting, and scripting skills;
  • Demonstrate the ability in the use, installation and support of Thin Client Virtualisation Technologies (Citrix, VMWare) including Access Gateway Receiver, Online Plugin and XenApp;
  • High level experience in desktop computer, server hardware and software and network infrastructure support to IT systems in a multi-disciplinary and multi-site environment;
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to deal with issues effectively under pressure with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills;
  • Very strong end user (clinical staff and patient) focus and commitment of delivering safe effective clinical treatments supported by computer intensive technology;
