Palliative Care Registered and Enrolled Nurses - Mary Potter Hospice

We are seeking experienced palliative care nurses to join our dedicated and passionate team. As a palliative care nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing high quality holistic care and support to patients’ nearing end-of-life.

  • Permanent part time - multiple positions
  • Working over a 7 day rotating roster, early, late and night shifts

 About the role

Our nursing team are responsible for providing inclusive, compassionate and holistic patient care in an acute hospice setting. Mary Potter Hospice specialises in providing end of life care for patients diagnosed with a life limiting illness.

You will work as part of a team to provide excellence in health care standards, practice in accordance with legal requirements and the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of Calvary North Adelaide Hospital. As part of our nursing team, you will actively participate in all aspects of palliative care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Using a patient centred approach to patient assessment
  • Maintaining high quality care for each patient
  • Managing symptoms and providing symptom relief through skilled nursing assessments and interventions
  • Educating patients and their families about symptom management, disease progression and end-of-life care
  • Offering emotional support and guidance to patients and families throughout the palliative care journey
  • Evaluating outcomes of care and initiating appropriate follow-up
  • Develop patient care pathways which consider priorities, timeframes actions and outcomes.
  • Evaluating and altering the patient care pathways in relation to changing patient needs in consultation with the leadership and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensuring adherence to palliative care protocols and national Palliative care standards

What you bring 

  • AHPRA Registration
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in palliative care nursing (desirable)
  • Ability to work autonomously, proficiently and in an organised manner during periods of high demand and activity
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the requirements of the National Standards for Safety and Quality in Healthcare, relevant legislations,  policies and procedures
  • A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
