About the role
The Payroll Accountant will oversee all payroll accounting functions, focusing on accurate financial reporting and compliance. This full-time role will not involve payroll processing but will collaborate closely with the payroll team to ensure accurate posting of payroll data into the CIA accounting system.
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for processing payroll journal entries and reconciliations for the entire Calvary group, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This role will oversee payroll-related financial reporting and collaborate closely with stakeholders to resolve payroll accounting matters. Additionally, the position supports year-end reporting and drives process improvements to enhance efficiency and standardisation.
This position is ideal for someone with strong payroll accounting expertise in a large or multi-entity organisation, with excellent analytical and communication skills to work effectively across teams.
Your main duties will include:
Prepare and post all payroll-related journal entries in Finance One, including: payroll accruals for missing days; enterprise agreement (EA) back pay and on-costs for long service leave (LSL) and annual leave (AL); workers’ compensation adjustments for leave provisions.
Ensure all entries align with payroll reports (PIT, leave liability reports) and financial deadlines.
Ensure accurate accrual accounting for EA rates, superannuation, workers' compensation, and other payroll-related obligations in collaboration with the Workplace Relations and payroll teams
Act as the key liaison between the payroll team and the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely communication regarding payroll costs and accounting matters
Address payroll accounting queries from internal stakeholders, escalating issues where necessary.
Assist in trend analysis, highlighting discrepancies or variances in payroll costs.
Identify opportunities for improving payroll accounting processes and workflows.
About you
Advanced Excel Proficiency: Expertise in handling large datasets including the ability to work with complex formulas, pivot tables and data analysis tools. Experience with VBA macros for process automation is also preferable.
Payroll Accounting Expertise: Experience in preparing and posting payroll journal entries.
Collaboration & Communication: Strong ability to work closely with payroll teams and finance stakeholders.
Organisation Experience: Proven experience working in a large or multi-entity organisation, handling complex payroll accounting structures.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in financial reporting, reconciliations, and journal entries.
Knowledge of accounting software: (e.g., CI Anywhere) and payroll systems (e.g., Chris 21) or similar.
