2026 Student Nurse Internship Program 

 

Calvary in Hobart is pleased to be partnering with the University of Tasmania to offer Bachelor of Nursing students the opportunity to be part of the 2026 Student Nurse Internship (SNI) Program. 

This program is designed to make the transition from Student Nurse to Registered Nurse as smooth as possible. Through two Professional Experience Placements (PEP) at Calvary's hospitals in Hobart, you will gain practical experience, mentorship from established educators and nurses, and regular performance feedback to support your growth.

 

Program Benefits

As a Student Nurse Intern, you will:

  • Gain direct entry into Calvary’s Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice (GNTP) Program in 2027 as a 0.8 FTE Registered Nurse upon successful completion of this SNI program.
  • Complete your internship with no additional coursework, as it integrates seamlessly with your UTAS final-year study requirements.
  • Receive comprehensive guidance through mentorship, feedback, and appraisals to strengthen your skills and build confidence.
  • Experience a smooth transition into graduate practice, with early familiarity of Calvary’s systems, processes, and supportive professional relationships.

Key dates and Locations:

Program Commences: February 2026

Program Completion: December 2026

Program Locations: Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St John's Hospitals, both located in Hobart, Tasmania.

Transition to GNTP: February 2027

 

 

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the Student Nurse Internship Program, you must be:

  • Enrolled in either:
    - First year of the University of Tasmania Bachelor of Nursing (2-year Accelerated Program), or
    - Second year of the University of Tasmania Bachelor of Nursing (3-year Program), and due to complete NUR358 and NUR359 in 2026
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or hold a Visa permitting ongoing full-time employment in Australia
  • Be a Hobart-based resident (including Greater Hobart), or be willing to relocate to Hobart for the Graduate Nurse year in 2027

 

Completion Outcome:

On successful completion, interns will gain direct entry into the Calvary Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice (GNTP) Program for 2027, with a 0.8 FTE permanent Registered Nurse position, provided they:

  • Successfully complete their nursing degree
  • Achieve AHPRA registration
  • Fulfil all Calvary pre-employment requirements

No. All course outline requirements must be completed within the SNI Program’s timeline before entry into the Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice Program.

Yes, maintaining academic excellence is a requirement and you may be asked to leave the Calvary Student Internship Program at Calvary's discretion. 

Maintaining and exhibiting behaviour consistent with the Calvary Code of Conduct is a requirement of successful completion of the Internship. You may be asked to leave the Program if this is not adhered to.

Maintaining clinical excellence is a requirement of the Calvary Internship Program and you may be asked to leave the Program if this is not met.

Meeting all the requirements for entrance into the Graduate Nurse Transition Program is a strict requirement.

No. This internship program is unpaid, and participation does not qualify as paid employment with Calvary. It is intended as a learning and development opportunity to help students build their professional experience and skills.
