Join our 2026 Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice (GNTP) Program, a comprehensive 12-month experience designed to support your transition from student to professional nurse.
- Commencing in February and July 2026
- Employment: 0.8 FTE, fixed term, with potential ongoing employment
About the GNTP Program
Following Calvary’s National GNTP guidelines, the 2026 program offers graduates the chance to consolidate clinical knowledge, build confidence, and develop professional identity in a supported, compassionate environment.
- Duration: 12 months (two × 6-month rotations)
- Intake: February (RNs and Ens) and July (Ens)
- Streams: Medical Ward, Surgical Ward, Mental Health, and Perioperative
- Employment: 0.8 FTE, fixed term, with potential ongoing employment
- Probation: 6 months
- Supervision: Dedicated New Graduate Coordinators, Preceptors, Learning and Development Managers and Coordinators, and Clinical Nurse Facilitators

Program Structure
Streams: Medical Ward, Surgical Ward, Mental Health, and Perioperative.
All Graduate Registered Nurses will complete two six-month rotations, including at least one medical or surgical rotation as part of the program.
Graduate Program Support Features
Buddy Shifts

Graduates are allocated to work with their preceptor(s) (mirrored shifts) as per the ‘Buddy System’ during the first 4 weeks of their first clinical rotation, and for the first 2 weeks of their second rotation.
No Nights

Graduates will not be rostered to work night duty at any time during the first 12 weeks of their GNTP program.
No Students

Graduates will not be “buddied” with undergraduate students or another graduate at any time during the first six months of the GNTP program.

This differs across Calvary sites. Calvary Launceston typically take one intake in
February. A mid-year intake is dependent on workforce planning.
At Calvary Launceston we typically offer two six month ward rotations. We also have
12 month positions in specialty areas such as theatre. During theatre rotations the
graduate has the opportunity to rotate between recovery, anaesthetics and
scrub/scout.
The GNTP at Calvary in Launceston is a 0.8 FTE (32 hours a week) position.
You will be given a patient load gradually and according to your skill mix and
competency levels. We don’t define an exact number as we recognise that
individuals progress at varying rates.
Calvary in Launceston offers six full-day paid study days for graduates, scheduled throughout the year as part of a comprehensive orientation and professional development program.
Yes. You are entitled to four weeks of annual leave, with an additional week if you work 20 weekend days within your anniversary year.
Theatre staff receive an extra week of leave in recognition of their flexible work requirements.
There is also the option to purchase one or two additional weeks of leave each year.
