Calvary Bruce Private Hospital is a 118-bed modern facility in Canberra, featuring eight state-of-the-art digitally integrated theatres, including a hybrid cardiac catheterisation lab and a critical care unit. The hospital provides comprehensive services across surgical, medical, orthopaedic, urology, oncology, women’s health, and mental health specialties. It is also home to the ACT’s only dedicated private mental health facility, offering both inpatient and outpatient programs guided by Calvary’s mission of compassionate, person-centred care.

About the GNTP Program


Following Calvary’s National GNTP guidelines, the 2026 program offers graduates the chance to consolidate clinical knowledge, build confidence, and develop professional identity in a supported, compassionate environment.

  • Duration: 12 months (two × 6-month rotations)
  • Intake: February (RNs and Ens) and July (Ens)
  • Streams: Medical Ward, Surgical Ward, Mental Health, and Perioperative 
  • Employment: 0.8 FTE, fixed term, with potential ongoing employment
  • Probation: 6 months
  • Supervision: Dedicated New Graduate Coordinators, Preceptors, Learning and Development Managers and Coordinators, and Clinical Nurse Facilitators

Program Structure

Streams: Medical Ward, Surgical Ward, Mental Health, and Perioperative.

All Graduate Registered Nurses will complete two six-month rotations, including at least one medical or surgical rotation as part of the program.

Graduate Program Support Features

Buddy Shifts

Graduates are allocated to work with their preceptor(s) (mirrored shifts) as per the ‘Buddy System’ during the first 4 weeks of their first clinical rotation, and for the first 2 weeks of their second rotation.

Graduates will not be rostered to work night duty at any time during the first 12 weeks of their GNTP program.

Graduates will not be “buddied” with undergraduate students or another graduate at any time during the first six months of the GNTP program.

How to Apply

    - Your resume (no more than 2 pages)
    - Your current unofficial transcript with current GPA
    - ANSAT reports with the Clinical Facilitator feedback. If not available, please provide two most recent clinical experience assessments. 
    - At least two referees with a minimum (using Arial size 10 font, standard margins), responding to the following 4 questions.
      Please provide specific examples to support your claims in your response: of one clinical referee. Please note, we will conduct reference checks pre-interview. 
    - A cover letter of no more than 1 page All pages of your two most recent clinical placement experience assessments
    1. Why you want to participate in the Calvary OnePlus Graduate Nurse Transition Program at CPHB?
    2. How do you ensure your practice is the highest standard?
    3. Describe a time when you used well developed communication and international skills to contribute to an effect team
    4. Describe a time in which you were able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care

You will not be scheduled for any night shifts during the first 12 weeks of your GNTP program.

Yes. Even if you have more than 3 months of EN experience, it does not affect your eligibility for the RN graduate program. Only prior RN experience counts toward the 3-month limit.

No. While both sites follow the same GNTP framework, their program streams and overall experiences are different. If you are specifically interested in the Bruce program, you should make sure to apply directly to Bruce, not John James.

No. You do not need to address the selection criteria. Instead, your cover letter (maximum 1 page, Arial size 10, standard margins) should answer four specific questions.

The four required questions are:

  2. How do you ensure your practice is of the highest standard?
