Join our 2026 Graduate Nurse Transition to Practice (GNTP) Program, a comprehensive 12-month experience designed to support your transition from student to professional nurse.

About the GNTP Program
Following Calvary’s National GNTP guidelines, the 2026 program offers graduates the chance to consolidate clinical knowledge, build confidence, and develop professional identity in a supported, compassionate environment.
- Duration: 12 months (Feb 2026 – Feb 2027)
- Streams: Ward-based and Theatre-based (Perioperative)
- Commencement Dates:
Ward Stream – 9 Feb & 23 Mar 2026
Theatre Stream – 9 Feb 2026 - Employment: Permanent 0.8 FTE contract
- Probation: 6 months
- Supervision: Dedicated GNTP Coordinators, Preceptors, and Clinical Nurse Facilitators
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Calvary Hobart GNTP, applicants must:
- Be completing a Bachelor of Nursing (for RN) or Diploma of Nursing (for EN) leading to AHPRA registration.
- Be ready to commence employment in February or March 2026.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or hold a visa allowing ongoing full-time employment in Australia.
(Note: Applicants with more than 3 months full-time equivalent nursing experience are not eligible.)

Program Structure
Ward-Based Stream
- Split intake: February & March 2026 – 27 Graduates
- One 12-month placement on an allocated ward
- Opportunity to express interest in specialty areas at 6 months
- Structured orientation and supernumerary shifts (minimum 3 days)
- Weekly debrief for first 4 weeks
- Reduced patient load during first month for gradual adjustment
- Regular competency reviews and performance feedback
Theatre-Based Stream
- One intake: February 2026 – 6 Graduates
- One placement within the Perioperative Department (Lenah Valley)
- Rotation across Scrub/Scout, Anaesthetics, PACU, Cath Lab, and Endoscopy
- 3 orientation days + 8 hours eLearning + 4 study sessions
- Weekly debrief sessions for first 4 weeks
- Focus on safe practice, teamwork, and technical skill development

Yes, maintaining academic excellence is a requirement and you may be asked to leave the Calvary Student Internship Program at Calvary's discretion.
Maintaining and exhibiting behaviour consistent with the Calvary Code of Conduct is a requirement of successful completion of the Internship. You may be asked to leave the Program if this is not adhered to.
Maintaining clinical excellence is a requirement of the Calvary Internship Program and you may be asked to leave the Program if this is not met.
Meeting all the requirements for entrance into the Graduate Nurse Transition Program is a strict requirement.
No. This internship program is unpaid, and participation does not qualify as paid employment with Calvary. It is intended as a learning and development opportunity to help students build their professional experience and skills.
