Calvary North Adelaide Hospital provides a broad range of medical, surgical, cancer, maternity, women’s health and palliative care services. Its perioperative suite includes a Day of Surgery Unit, three procedural rooms and seven operating theatres that support specialties such as general surgery, colorectal surgery, gynaecology, breast and endocrine surgery, ENT, plastics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, gastroenterology, urology and orthopaedics.
Calvary Central Districts Hospital offers acute medical and surgical care supported by a modern Day of Surgery Unit and procedure suite. Key specialties include orthopaedics, colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, ENT, ophthalmology, gynaecology, urology, breast surgery, general surgery and endocrine surgery. The hospital is also known for its dedicated palliative care unit, providing compassionate end-of-life support for patients and families.

You will gain hands-on experience across Calvary’s three South Australian hospitals, supported by dedicated GNTP Coordinators, Preceptors and Clinical Educators. The program includes comprehensive orientation, study days and ongoing learning opportunities to help consolidate your knowledge and build strong clinical practice.

About the GNTP Program
The Calvary Graduate Nurse and Midwife Transition Program (GNTP) supports graduates as they consolidate clinical knowledge, build confidence and transition into professional practice within a structured and compassionate learning environment.
- Duration: 12 months (2 X 6-month rotations, or 1x12-month rotation, depending on clinical area)
- Streams: Wards-based, Theatre-based and specialty rotations
- Employment: Permanent position with FTE options from 0.8 to full-time
- Probation: 6 months
- Supervision: Dedicated GNTP Coordinators, Preceptors and Clinical Educators
- Education: Graduate-specific study days and ongoing learning opportunities
- Roster: 24/7 rotating roster in line with program requirements
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Calvary South Australia GNTP, applicants must:
- Be completing a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery, or Diploma of Nursing leading to initial AHPRA registration
- Be ready to commence employment in February 2026
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a visa with ongoing work rights in Australia
- Be able to work 0.8–1.0 FTE on a 24/7 rotating roster
(Note: Applicants with more than 3 months full-time equivalent nursing or midwifery experience)

Calvary Adelaide Hospital Program Structure
Registered Nurse
Graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) will be offered rotations in either the Acute or Perioperative Stream.
- Specialty Areas: ICU, Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Emergency, Angiography, Palliative Care, Oncology, and Perioperative.
- For those selecting the Perioperative stream, you will also be required to rank your preferences for the following areas: Scrub/Scout, Anaesthetics, Recovery, and Day Surgery.
Enrolled Nurse
Enrolled Nurses (ENs) in the Acute stream will complete a 6-month program (one rotation).
Registered Midwife
Calvary North Adelaide Hospital (CNAH) Program Structure
Registered Nurses
Graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) will be offered rotations in either the Acute or Perioperative Stream.

Surgical Ward, Medical Oncology and Haematology Ward, Oncology Day Unit, Oncology Placement Program (two 6-month rotations between the Medical Oncology and Haematology Ward and the Oncology Day Unit), Mary Potter Hospice – Palliative Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit -
Perioperative Stream:
Recovery, Anaesthetics, Scrub / Scout, Day Ward
Enrolled Nurses
Enrolled Nurses (ENs) in the Acute stream will complete a 6 month program (one rotation), while Perioperative Enrolled Graduates will complete a 12 month program (two rotations).
- Acute Stream:
Enrolled Nurse Graduates complete a 6-month Graduate Nurse Transition Program and may undertake their placement in any of the following areas: Surgical Ward, Medical Oncology and Haematology Ward, and Mary Potter Hospice – Palliative Care Unit
- Perioperative Stream:
Enrolled Nurse Graduates complete a 12-month Graduate Nurse Transition Program and may undertake their placement in any of the following areas: Scrub/Scout, and Day Ward
Registered Midwives
Registered Midwives (RMs) will rotate through all three areas of the Maternity Unit, gaining comprehensive experience across the continuum of midwifery care.

Calvary Central Districts Hospital (CCDH) Program Structure
Registered Nurses
Registered Nurses (RNs) undertake rotations within either the Acute or Perioperative streams, allowing them to build expertise in alignment with their career goals and areas of interest.
- Acute Stream: General Surgical Ward, General Medical Ward, Palliative Care Unit, and Higher Observations Unit (HOU)
- Perioperative Stream: Recovery, Anesthetics, Scrub/Scout, and the Day Surgery Unit (DSU).
Enrolled Nurses
Enrolled Nurses (ENs) within the Acute Stream complete a focused six-month program, designed to strengthen core clinical capabilities and confidence in the acute care setting.
- Acute Stream: may undertake placements across a variety of specialties on our wards, including General Medical and Surgical areas.

Each site offers different numbers of positions dependent on local business
activity and workforce planning. On average approximately 90 positions are
offered each year across CHCSA sites. This is inclusive of RNs, RMs and ENs
The GNTP consists of 2 rotations of 6 months duration within one Calvary
Hospital. There are some variations in the length of rotation in some specialty
areas such as Perioperative Services – this is determined at the individual site.
Registered Midwives will rotate through all 3 departments: Post Natal, Delivery
Suite and Special Care Nursery.
We endeavour to match your selected preferences from the Selection Criteria
Response document, to the rotations offered within CHCSA. Please note, your
preference is not always guaranteed due to the needs and requirements of the
Hospital.
Staff are paid according to the current CHCSA Enterprise Agreement.
Yes, there are a minimum of 6 paid orientation and study days included in the
program. In addition to set study days, CHCSA offers a significant number of
education opportunities, and supernumerary time for all graduates to attend.
Yes. If you work over a 7-day roster you are entitled to 6 weeks annual leave. If
you work over a 5 day roster (e.g. Monday to Friday in Theatre) you are entitled
to 4 weeks annual leave .
No. Only Graduates that have completed a Bachelor of Midwifery are employed
in the Maternity Unit. We do offer a Graduate Midwife Program at Calvary
North Adelaide Hospital for eligible Registered Midwives.
Parking varies at each of our sites. Information for each site is made available to
all staff and safe transport measures are supported. Onsite parking is allowed
for night duty at all hospitals.
