About the Unit
The neurosurgical and cardiothoracic ward is a twenty-two bed ward specialising in neuro and cardiothoracic surgery. The unit has a supportive team environment with the opportunity for individuals to learn and develop acute care skills in two complex specialties. There is a strong leadership team to offer ongoing support and mentoring. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment with a focus on ensuring patient centred care and the delivery of positive patient outcomes is our priority.
Entry to Acute Care Program
The Entry to Acute Care Program has been designed to provide intensive support concentrated over a 6-week period, but totalling 12 months, enabling sub-acute nurses to transition rapidly and successfully into acute practice.
The program includes:
Three ward specific study days;
Orientation day
Neurosurgical study day
Cardiothoracic study day
A supportive introduction to the ward by ensuring participants are allocated three supernumerary days with a gradual increase in patient load over the first 6 weeks.
A designated ward based Clinical Nurse Facilitator to support and guide your transition.
What you bring
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience
AHPRA Registration
Demonstrated recent clinical experience in an acute care and/or hospital setting
Ability to work unsupervised, proficiently and in an organised manner during periods of high demand and activity
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated communication, interpersonal skills and customer service skills
A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
