About the role
Working in partnership with patients, families and other healthcare disciplines, Bereavement Services contribute to the health and wellbeing of family members and friends of patients admitted to the Community Palliative Care Service (CPCS) and the in inpatient unit at Calvary Health Care Bethlehem (CHCB).
Note: at present, bereavement care is not routinely provided in the State-wide Progressive Neurological Diseases Service (SPNDS) as the patient’s local health care team is responsible for bereavement care of these families and friends.
Bereavement Care involves assisting the multidisciplinary team to identify individuals likely to need professional bereavement care, supporting individuals to strengthen their own informal support networks, and providing bereavement counselling only when other support mechanisms are unavailable. Bereavement Counselling is provided face to face and online in both group and individual sessions. Bereavement Services also work with the Pastoral care team to provide Remembrance Services for family and friends of CHCB patients and Remembering Lives sessions for CHCB staff.
Your main duties will include:
- Provide bereavement care in line with the Bereavement Supports Standards for Specialist Palliative Care Services and Calvary Bereavement Care policy
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Maintain up to date documentation and information on Calvary systems that help people live well with illness, aging, dying and grief
About you
- Counselling qualifications and experience with specialization in bereavement, grief and loss.
- COVID-19 and influenza vaccination is a mandatory requirement unless assessed exempt
- Demonstrated and on-going entitlement to work in Australia
- Employee Screening Checks: Employees must undergo a National Police Record Check and/or a Working with Children Check in accordance with the CHCB Policy
