- Permanent Part-Time (16 hours per fortnight).

Introduction to the Role
The Director of Prevocational Education and Training (DPET) provides strategic medical leadership and oversight of the prevocational training program. This pivotal role is dedicated to supporting the professional development of junior doctors during their first two years of clinical practice.
The Director of Prevocational Education and Training (DPET) provides strategic medical leadership and oversight of the prevocational training program. This pivotal role is dedicated to supporting the professional development of junior doctors during their first two years of clinical practice.
The DPET is responsible for ensuring high-quality education, training, and supervision, while also promoting the wellbeing and professional growth of junior medical staff. Working closely with clinical leaders and multidisciplinary teams, the DPET fosters a supportive learning environment that encourages excellence in patient care and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of the prevocational training program.
- Design, implement, and evaluate structured education programs for junior medical staff.
- Provide effective supervision and guidance to Junior Medical Officers (JMOs), ensuring they understand and meet their professional and clinical responsibilities.
- Promote a culture of safe, high-quality patient care through appropriate clinical oversight and support.
- Monitor and support the welfare and wellbeing of prevocational trainees.
- Ensure the program aligns with accreditation standards and organisational objectives.
- Manage resources effectively and operate within budgetary requirements in line with Calvary Mater Newcastle priorities.
About You
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
- Recognised specialist qualification in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
- Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with full general registration.
- A strong commitment to postgraduate medical education and a willingness to further develop expertise in this area.
- Proven ability to support, mentor, and develop junior medical staff in a clinical environment.
