Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator - Calvary Launceston 

Calvary St Vincent’s and St Luke’s are experiencing an exciting period of change and innovation with the implementation of state-of-the-art portable operating theatres at St Vincent’s Hospital. This change to our surgical services will provide new infection prevention challenges and the opportunity to be part of the implementation of the first portable theatre in Tasmania and the first hospital in Australia to have two portable theatres.

As the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Coordinator will play a key role in guiding and supporting our clinical teams through this exciting evolution. You’ll provide expert advice and guidance to ensure our IPC systems remain robust, contemporary and aligned with best practice as we modernise our service.

• Permanent, part time 60.8 hours per fortnight

About the role

The Infection Prevention & Control Coordinator will be responsible for providing operational leadership and management within Calvary St Vincent's and St Luke’s campuses, to ensure high standards of infection prevention and control practices to ensure positive patient outcomes and a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Duties within the role may include project assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on IPC risks and outcomes. This is in conjunction with maintaining relevant accreditation standards relating to infection prevention control.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, evaluate and report on key IPC activities to meet the requirements of local, state and national protocols and guidelines 
• Conduct surveillance, investigations and audits providing timely reporting and feedback
• Provide collaborative leadership and expert advice pertaining to organisational IPC risks, including outbreak and contact tracing events
• Partner with clinical teams to identify, assess and mitigate emerging IPC risks, including during the rollout of portable theatres.
• Contribute to maintaining accreditation standards relating to infection prevention and control

 What you bring 

• Registered Nurse with post-graduation experience 
• Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) Bachelor of Nursing Degree
• Demonstrated knowledge of HICMR, ACHS, quality improvement and risk management
• Person centred approach to supporting staff & patients in communicating IPC risks and system features
• Highly developed skills in communication (verbal, written and IT), problem solving & conflict resolution 
• An ability to demonstrate leadership skills, work as part of the team, work effectively under pressure and prioritise workload
