About the Role

The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse (gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare tumours) applies their advanced knowledge of the health needs, preferences, and circumstances of individuals with gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers to optimise the individual’s health and well-being at various phases across the continuum of care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and palliative care. The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse incorporates advanced knowledge and skills in supportive care, including providing specialised and tailored information and education, psychological support, and clinical care.

The McGrath Cancer Care Nurse facilitates continuity of care between different phases of the cancer journey, care settings, care plans and care providers to ensure optimal care is provided throughout the patients’ individual care.

  • Temporary Full-Time (to the end of June 2027)
  • Salary Classification: Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 2, Year 1 – 2
  • Remuneration: $66.50 to $67.83 per hour + superannuation + annual leave loading + salary packaging options.

DUTIES:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive and advanced knowledge of the pathophysiology and progression of gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers, and current evidence regarding gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancer treatments across the care continuum, and the short- and longer-term effects of gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers and treatments.
  • Provide specialised care, information, education, and support to clients relating to gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers in accordance with evidence based clinical practice guidelines and the McGrath Model of Care.
  • Plan coordinate and provide advanced care management across the care continuum to patients with gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers from the point of diagnosis, through surgery, treatment, survivorship and palliative care both in public and private facilities.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of health services and community resources relevant to gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers across HNELHD
  • Facilitate and provide appropriate individualised information, education and support to patients/carers regarding treatment modalities, supportive care and practical assistance relevant to their needs.
  • Triage new referrals  

ABOUT YOU:

  • Registered Nurse authorised to practice by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated five (5) years full time equivalent post registration experience with three (3) year’s full time experience in a Cancer Care Nurse related role and post graduate qualification in Cancer Care Nursing or Oncology Nursing.
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and problem solving skills with ability to break down complex problems and develop a range of solutions based on specialist expert knowledge of gynaecological, genitourinary (non-prostate) and rare cancers.
  • Demonstrated capacity to evaluate current clinical practice within Oncology and recommend improvements to avoid potential problems or minimise impacts on the organisation.
  • Demonstrated highly developed verbal and written communication skills necessary for documenting research, promoting awareness of current research and providing clinical services directly to patients/clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary
