Volunteer Opportunity – Mums & Bubs Program
Friday mornings | Calvary John James Hospital, Deakin
Do you love spending time with babies and want to make a positive difference in the lives of new mums?
Calvary John James Hospital is looking for a warm, caring and reliable volunteer to support our weekly Mums & Bubs post-natal physiotherapy exercise class on Friday mornings.
Our Mums & Bubs program provides new mothers with an opportunity to participate in gentle post-natal exercise while their babies are nearby. As a volunteer, you'll help create a relaxed, welcoming and supportive environment by spending time with the little ones while their mums take part in the session.
What would you be doing?
-
Playing, engaging and interacting with babies during the exercise class.
-
Helping to settle babies when needed.
-
Providing bottle feeds (expressed breast milk or formula) when requested by the mother.
-
Offering a friendly, reassuring presence to new mums.
-
Working alongside our friendly physiotherapy team to help make the sessions enjoyable and welcoming.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who:
-
Has previous experience caring for or spending time with babies and young children.
-
Is naturally warm, patient, nurturing and approachable.
-
Enjoys interacting with babies and is comfortable responding to their needs.
-
Respects different parenting styles and follows the guidance of each mother.
-
Is reliable, confident and happy to work as part of a team.
The commitment
This is a weekly, ongoing volunteer opportunity on Friday mornings at John James Hospital.
We're particularly looking for someone who can make a genuine, long-term commitment and become a familiar and valued part of the program. Consistency is important for the mothers, babies and team involved.
Please note that this opportunity is not suitable for short-term work experience, student placements, course or study requirements, or as a pathway to employment. It is a volunteer role for someone who is genuinely interested in giving their time and making a difference.
