Nursing Unit Manager
Acute Medical Ward (4C)
Calvary Mater Newcastle is seeking an experienced and motivated Nursing Unit Manager to lead our Acute Medical Ward (4C). This is an excellent opportunity to step into a key leadership role within a dynamic, supportive and values‑based organisation.
The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, evidence‑based and compassionate care. The role provides strategic and operational leadership across the ward, oversees patient flow and clinical standards, and fosters a positive and collaborative team culture. The successful candidate will lead workforce development, support quality and safety initiatives, and ensure resources are managed effectively to meet service needs.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to patient outcomes, staff experience and the ongoing performance of the Acute Medical Service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to support high‑quality, patient‑centred care within the Acute Medical Ward.
- Oversee clinical standards, patient flow, care coordination and compliance with professional, legislative and organisational requirements.
- Lead, mentor and support the nursing and multidisciplinary team to build capability, foster collaboration and maintain a positive workplace culture.
- Manage human, financial and physical resources to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery.
- Drive quality improvement, clinical governance and evidence‑based practice initiatives to support ongoing service development.
- Contribute to broader organisational planning, ensuring alignment with Calvary Mater Newcastle’s mission, values and strategic priorities.
What you bring
You are an experienced and values‑driven Registered Nurse with a strong commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred acute care. You bring recent experience in an acute clinical environment and the capability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced and complex setting. Your leadership style is supportive, collaborative and focused on developing others, and you communicate with confidence, clarity and professionalism.
You are skilled in managing human and financial resources, coordinating safe staffing, and ensuring services operate efficiently and sustainably. You have a sound understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement and evidence‑based practice, and you are proactive in driving improvements that enhance patient outcomes and staff experience.
