About the Role

As a Pastoral Care Practitioner Level 2, you will provide skilled spiritual and emotional care within a busy acute hospital environment, supporting patients and families during some of life's most vulnerable moments.

Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, you will undertake spiritual assessments, develop and implement spiritual care interventions, and advocate for holistic care that respects the dignity and uniqueness of every individual.

This role also provides leadership within the Pastoral Care team through mentoring, resource development and contribution to quality improvement initiatives.

You are a compassionate and highly engaged spiritual care professional who is committed to upholding the dignity of every person who enters our hospitals. You bring emotional maturity, professional judgement and a genuine desire to make a meaningful contribution to the wellbeing of patients, families and colleagues.

You will demonstrate:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to establish trusting relationships with people from diverse cultural, spiritual and religious backgrounds.
  • Confidence working independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Sound pastoral, theological and ethical reflection skills.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), with preference for one Advanced Unit of CPE or Two years of full-time tertiary study in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Pastoral Counselling or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years' experience providing pastoral or spiritual care within acute health care or other high-acuity settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise referrals and undertake spiritual assessments, care planning and interventions for individuals with complex needs.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement activities and service development initiatives.
  • Ability to practice within the scope of the pastoral care role and seek guidance appropriately for complex ethical matters.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound pastoral and theological reflection skills.
  • Valid unrestricted Drivers Licence 

Desirable

  • Eligibility for, or membership with, Spiritual Care Australia (SCA).
  • Experience mentoring students or junior practitioners.
  • Experience facilitating rituals, liturgies and reflective practices within health care settings.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, ethical frameworks and contemporary evidence-based approaches to spiritual care.
