The Senior Clinical Costings Analyst leads the organisation’s clinical costing function, ensuring accurate and timely analysis of clinical, operational and financial data to understand patient-level costs, service profitability and key cost drivers. The role provides valuable insights to executives, clinicians and operational leaders to support informed decisions around resource allocation, service delivery, growth and financial sustainability. It also focuses on improving data quality, costing processes and systems, while developing costing methodologies, automation and analytics. The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as the ability to mentor analysts and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.
- Lead clinical costing: Oversee the end-to-end costing process and ensure patient-level costs are accurate and timely.
- Analyse financial performance: Identify cost drivers, profitability, margins and opportunities to improve financial performance.
- Support decision-making: Turn complex clinical, operational and financial data into clear insights for executives, clinicians and managers.
- Ensure Standards & Compliance: Maintain costing platforms (PPM) in alignment with APCS, IHACPA guidelines, and Activity-Based Funding (ABF) principles.
- Improve data quality: Work with clinical and operational teams to improve documentation, data systems and processes that feed into costing.
- Influence stakeholders: Partner with clinicians, finance teams and operational leaders to increase cost awareness and support better resource allocation.
- Support strategy: Provide costing insights for service redesign, growth opportunities and sustainable financial performance.
- Lead and develop: Improve costing methodologies, automation and analytics, while mentoring other analysts.
- Drive continuous improvement: Find better, more efficient ways to produce reliable costing information and support high-value patient care.
- Costing Experience: Extensive experience (7+ years) in clinical costings, preferably within a private hospital environment, along with hands-on management of clinical costing applications (e.g., PPM, PowerHealth).
- Standards & Methodologies: Deep familiarity with Australian Patient Costing Standards (APCS), Activity-Based Funding (ABF) principles, and IHACPA guidelines.
- Health Data & Funding Expertise: Expert understanding of Australian health data structures (DRGs, diagnostic and procedure coding) and health fund models across private insurers and government agencies.
- Stakeholder & Influence Skills: Strong communication and influencing capabilities to translate complex data into clear insights, guide decision-making, and build cost awareness.
- Strategic & Analytical Mindset: Strategic, outcome-focused thinker with a strong curiosity for problem-solving, process improvement, and system automation.
