The Senior Pharmacist – Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) is responsible for the supervision and coordination of antimicrobial therapy throughout the hospital, as the hospitals lead clinician for the AMS program.  The Senior Pharmacist – AMS in conjunction with the Infectious Diseases physicians will be responsible for the introduction and maintenance of anti-infective practice guidelines and for leading processes for scoping and engaging with peers, medical officers and nursing staff around the effective and efficient use of antimicrobial agents across the hospital.

The Calvary Mater Newcastle has a well-established AMS program. The AMS Pharmacist will report to and work closely with the Pharmacy Department, the Infectious Diseases Physicians within the Department of Medicine, the CMN Quality Manager and the Director of Pharmacy.

Selection criteria

• Current registration as a Pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA).
• A minimum of three years of practicing as a registered Hospital Pharmacist, with experience in antimicrobial stewardship and/or quality use of medicines.
• Demonstrated effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proven capacity to organise a complex workload with advanced leadership skills.
• Able to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.                                                                            

Employment details

Salary Classification:  Pharmacist - Grade 3 (Yr 1-2) 

Remuneration: $69.15 to $71.02 per hour + super + annual leave loading
