2026 Student Nurse Internship Program 

In partnership with the University of Tasmania, Calvary Hobart is proud to offer nursing students the chance to join the 2026 Student Nurse Internship Program, a unique initiative designed to support your journey from student to graduate nurse. This program combines hands-on clinical placements, mentorship from experienced professionals, and structured guidance to help you grow in confidence and capability as you begin your nursing career.

Program Overview

  • Designed to support final-year nursing students in their transition from Student Nurse to Graduate Nurse.
  • Includes two Clinical Professional Experience Placements (PEP) at Calvary Hobart.
  • Provides structured support through educators, facilitators, and nurses.
  • Focuses on professional and personal development with:
     - Ongoing mentorship
     - Regular performance feedback
     - Performance appraisals

Key dates and information:

Program Commences: February 2026

Program Completion: December 2026

Course location: Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St John's Hospitals, both located in Hobart, TAS.

Transition to GNTP: February 2027

 

 

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the Calvary Student Nurse Internship Program, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in: First year of the University of Tasmania Bachelor of Nursing (2-year Accelerated Degree), or Second year of the University of Tasmania Bachelor of Nursing (3-year Degree) (must be due to complete NUR358 and NUR359 in 2025)
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or hold a Visa permitting ongoing full-time employment in Australia
  • Be a Hobart-based resident (including Greater Hobart), or be willing to relocate to Hobart for the Graduate Nurse year in 2026

 

 

Completion Outcome:

On successful completion, interns will gain direct entry into the Calvary Graduate Nurse Transition Program (GNTP) for 2027, with a 0.8 FTE permanent Registered Nurse position, provided they:

  • Successfully complete their nursing degree
  • Achieve AHPRA registration
  • Fulfil all Calvary pre-employment requirements

No, all requirements of the course outline will need to be met before entering into the Graduate Nurse Transition Program.

Yes, maintaining academic excellence is a requirement and you may be asked to leave the Calvary Student Internship Program at Calvary's discretion. 

Maintaining and exhibiting behaviour consistent with Calvary Code of Conduct is a requirement of successful completion of the Internship. You may be asked to leave the Program if this is not adhered to.

Maintaining clinical excellence is a requirement of the Calvary Internship Program and you may be asked to leave the Program if this is not met.

Meeting all the requirements for entrance into the Graduate Nurse Transition Program is a strict requirement.
