  • Permanent Part-Time (20 hours per week). 
  • Classification: Staff Specialist Level 1 (Level election is optional)
  • Remuneration: $262,376 - $323,777 p.a. dependent on years of experience, plus superannuation, salary packaging.

About the Role: 

The Staff Specialist works with the surgical multidisciplinary team in providing excellent patient care within Calvary Mater Newcastle to maximise health outcomes for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and participate in research activities and quality management initiatives.
  • Supervise and teach rotational provisional fellows, registrars and JMOs in the department.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Anaesthesia to improve service delivery and patient management.
  • Provide clinical services for surgical patients requiring advanced pain management and other hospital patients who require the assistance of a consultant anaesthetist.

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Fellowship of the Australia & New Zealand College of Anaesthetist
  • Demonstrated capacity in efficient and effective patient management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.
  • Adaptability in use of medical IT applications e.g. electronic medical records & prescribing.
  • Commitment to undergraduate and post graduate teaching in medicine, nursing and allied health.
  • A Primary Medical Degree registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
